[정＆그린의 American English] Tourist attraction and landmark in NYC

미국의 대표적인 도시인 뉴욕은 금융 및 비즈니스의 중심지다. Central park, Statue of liberty(자유의 여신상), Wall Street, Grand Central Station, Yankee stadium(양키스 홈구장), Madison square garden(맨해튼 실내경기장), SoHo(South of Houston Street) 등이 관광명소(Tourist attraction) 및 상징물(Landmark)이다. NYC(New York City)는 5개의 자치구(Borough)인 맨해튼(Manhattan), 퀸스(Queens), 브루클린(Brooklyn), 브롱스(Bronx), 그리고 스테이튼 아일랜드(Staten Island)로 이루어져 있다.

Bronx에는 세계에서 두 번째로 큰 동물원인 Bronx Zoo가 있다. Lincoln center for the performing arts에서는 뉴욕내에서도 유명한 극장 등 다양한 예술 문화를 즐길 수 있는 곳들이 밀집되어 있는 곳으로도 유명하다. New York Philharmonics, The Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet 들이 위치해 있고, 링컨센터 앞에는 예술학교로 유명한 Julliard 학교도 위치해 있어 많은 관광객이 찾는 곳이다.

John: I can’t believe we finally made it to NYC! There are so many great tourist attractions to see. Where should we start, the Bronx Zoo?(마침내 뉴욕에 갈 수 있다는 것이 믿기지 않아! 뉴욕에는 볼 만한 관광지가 아주 많아. 어디서부터 시작해야 되지? 브롱스공원?)

Mark: Let’s visit all five boroughs; Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island. We can see the zoo and so much more. Also, since we’re both huge sports fans, let’s check out Yankee stadium and Madison Square Gardens.(맨해튼, 퀸스, 브루클린, 브롱스 그리고 스테이튼 아일랜드 5개 자치구를 모두 둘러보자. 공원이랑 더 많은 것들을 볼 수 있어. 그리고, 우리 둘 다 스포츠 광팬이니 양키스 홈구장과 메디슨 스퀘어가든도 확인해 보자.)

John: Where else can we go? I’m up for anything, this city is amazing!(다른 데는 어디 갈수가 있지? 모든 것이 흥분돼, 뉴욕은 놀라운 곳이니!)

Mark: We certainly need to check out Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and Grand Central Stations. I think it could be interesting to see Wall Street, too.(우리는 센트럴파크, 자유의 여신상 그리고 그랜드 센트럴스테이션도 분명히 확인해 봐야돼.)

John: Those are great landmarks! What about SOHO, I’ve heard it’s interesting.(전부 다 훌륭한 상징물들이야! 소호도 흥미로운 곳이라는데 어때.)

Mark: SOHO is in lower Manhattan and was famous for the eclectic mix of artists’ lofts and art galleries but has become famous for its shopping recently.(맨해튼 남부지역인 소호는 다양한 예술가들의 건물과 전시관으로 유명하지만 최근에는 쇼핑지로 유명해졌어.)

John: What about experiencing some New York City’culture?(뉴욕시 문화를 체험하는 것은 어때?)

Mark: We could take in the NYC Ballet, The Metropolitan Opera, The New York Philharmonic, The Lincoln Center for Performing Arts or even Julliard.(뉴욕시 발레와 광역시오페라, 뉴욕필하모닉, 링컨센터 공연 또는 줄리아드 공연도 경험해 보자.)
