The Asian Athletics Championships, held in Gumi from May 27 to May 31, is continuing to generate great excitement. With more than 2,000 and officials from 43 Asian countries and numerous domestic and international visitors, it has become a festival for the people of Asia. It preserves the legacy of Buddhism's introduction to Silla and features a memorial hall, a traditional house experience center, a temple food center, and traditional dwellings with exhibition spaces.

5월 27~31일까지 구미시에서 열리는 '아시아육상경기대회'가 뜨겁게 달아 오르고 있다. 아시아 43개국에서 모인 2천여명의 선수·임원단과 수많은 국내외 관람객들이 방문해 아시아인의 축제가 된 것이다. 구미시는 이번 대회를 통해 산업·역사·문화·자연이 어우러진 관광자원을 알리고 있다. 단순한 경기 관람을 뛰어넘어 '경유지'가 아닌 '관광 경험지'로 구미시를 알리는 관광명소를 소개한다.
◆ 박정희 대통령 생가와 역사자료관
소박한 초가집으로 보존된 박정희 전 대통령의 생가는 그분의 유년시절 생활을 고스란히 간직하고 있다. 이곳 주변 역사자료관에는 구미 출신 대통령으로서의 리더십, 산업구조의 근대화 정책 전개 과정, 구미국가산업단지 설립 배경 등을 주제로 영상, 사진, 실물 자료, 박정희 대통령의 유품 등을 전시하고 있다. 관광객들은 단순한 인물 중심의 전시를 넘어, 당대의 사회 변화와 한국 현대사의 흐름을 배울 수 있는 곳이다.

◆ 대한민국 산업의 교과서 구미국가산업단지

구미시 상모사곡동 새마을운동 테마공원은 1970년대 대한민국 농촌 근대화의 상징인 새마을운동의 정신과 실천을 기념하고 계승하는 복합문화공간이다. 전시관, 연수관, 글로벌관, 테마촌은 교육, 체험, 문화가 넘친다. 이곳 전시관에서는 새마을운동 시작부터 확산까지 흐름을 시각적으로 표현해 관람객의 이해를 돕는다. 북카페와 미디어큐브, 어린이 체험공간 등 다양한 부대시설도 준비돼 있다.
