A Message of Condolence to the Royal Family from the Ryu Clan of Hahoe in South Korea

It is with the deepest sadness that the members of the Great Ryu Clan and the residents of Hahoe Village in Andong, South Korea, learn of the passing away of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

She honored our clan and Hahoe Village by visiting our places in April 1999. The timing of her visit could not be more perfect – we celebrated her 73rd birthday during her stay in our village. We offered our traditional mask dance and food festival as part of our celebration events. She complimented our village as the “most Korean place in Korea.” News of her visit and photos she left helped to make our village a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a famous tourism destination, where thousands of people visit each week these days.

We will miss the Queen and these sweet memories of her will always remain in our hearts. May her soul rest in peace.

영국 엘리자베스 2세 여왕 서거 애도 조사(弔辭)

하회 류씨 종친회 회원들과 하회마을 주민들은 영국 엘리자베스 2세 여왕의 서거에 즈음하여 슬픔을 금치 못하며 여왕 가족과 영국 시민들에게 심심한 조의를 전달코자 합니다.

여왕께서는 1999년 4월 여왕의 73세 생신이 있던 때 우리 하회마을과 풍산 류씨 가문을 방문하셨고 우리 마을에서는 여왕폐하의 생신을 축하하기 위하여 하회탈춤을 공연하고 생일상을 차려드리는 영광을 가졌습니다.

여왕의 방문과 남기신 사진 덕분에 우리 하회는 이제 매주 수천 명이 방문하는 한국의 명문 관광지가 되었습니다.

삼가 고인의 명복을 빕니다.
